Hellooooooooooooooooooooo, everyone! I'm Deborah Nieto. But you can call me Debbie. =) Aimee invited me to sign up in your forum two weeks ago. (Has it been that long, Aimee? Sorry it took me some time before introducing myself and posting something here.) I love reading fiction, poetry, and well, nonfic too. Off the top of my head, here are some of the authors I loooooove: Eric Gamalinda, Nerisa del Carmen Guevara, Jerry Gracio, Neil Gaiman, Lois Lowry, Edgar Samar, Marjorie Evasco, J. Neil Garcia, John Ravenscroft, Franz Kakfa, Ray Bradbury, and, of course, Raymond Carver! =)

About two months ago, I was actually wondering how it would be like to be part of a book club. I pictured that it would be fun and so much more refreshing and lighter than the kind of environment I've been used to for several years--being in "workshops" and the like (not with the National Book Development Board, just to make things clear. =) ) Anyway, here I am and more than having the opportunity to share with Read Philippines NBDB's programs and upcoming events, I'm excited about getting immersed in your book discussions, (possibly) creating collaborations, and listening to your suggestions or ideas--particularly about helping more Filipinos develop better/stronger reading habits. =) Wow, sorry, ang haba ng intro. =))

Bottomline: Hi, everyone! I love looooove books and reading. And I'm thrilled to be here. =)

Hello Deborah! Welcome to RP!
You are one of the most enthusiastic newbie i have come across here. hehehe! I am also thrilled to have you here din :) WoW! your work sounds very interesting.... i actually look it up and got the gist that your department main function is to support the publishing book industry of our country. I don't have so much knowledge of the inner working of your agency but what area do you specialize if you don't mind me asking?
I also love to read a lot most of the time too. I especially love the YA, NA, Historical romance, contemporary fictions. We have an ongoing poll for the book reading for the month of April if you have time and interested to join you can look it up under Book of the Month thread.
I handle the Children and Young Adult section here and also have a YA monthly challenges for my interested readers to help introduce more YA genre books :) coz it is my passion.
I am quite active in other "fandoms" whose members are very young readers bet. ages of 11 to 21 in the YA genre. So i pretty much have an idea what they are into...even at my ahem mature age i can relate to them at some level coz of the common books we read and how we "fangirl" over them. Anyway, before we get carried away I hope to see you more here soon. And I am happy that you took up Ms. Aimee's invite after all (hmmm is that you Ms. Wanda?) hehehe.

Again WELCOME!!!

Hello, Debbie and welcome to RP! :D We're chuffed to have you. :)

I'm still bummed I didn't get to go to the Kapihan event with miss Wanda. :/ I got sick a few days before it and was not able to get over the bug that got to me in time. =____=;; It would've been awesome to meet you guys. :P

Anyway, you're right. Forums, in general, aren't really like what you expect when you join them. :D I have a set and, admittedly, biased opinion of what RP is like. :) I'm excited to see what you'll come to think of us in the future.

I see you mentioned a couple of authors that I like as well. I feel like Gaiman changed the way I see the world. He's wonderfully brilliant in my opinion. I haven't "met" a few of the ones that you mentioned. Hmm.. Care to put together a list of books you think I ought to read? Especially that of local authors. ;) I've committed myself to reading local books and things a couple of years back. Sadly, my repertoire isn't that vast... Yet. :P

I'm all for developing the reading habits of Filipinos. ^^ As a college instructor, I found it upsetting how there's so few students who find the joy in reading. I've started a personal project to get my students to read. I call it Book Share and it's supposed to be a monthly thing. This might not be the thread to discuss it though. :P

Oh and your intro wasn't long at all. Sorry my reply to yours is longER. X___x But the sentiment stands!

Welcome to Read Philippines. Feel free to roam the many threads we have and add to the ones you like. I also encourage you to make new ones! :D I really hope you'll like it here.
