OMG! I am back!!!!!!

Sorry I haven't been active in so looooooong.

Anyway, most of my YA books are heroine-centric... most of YA books nowadays are heroine-centric AND dystopian is hot right now. That's why I stay away from dystopia, if I could, nowadays. Although I do check out books which have interesting synopsis and come in highly recommended by a few bloggers whose opinion I value. I don't really get sucked in by hype, I learned my lesson with a few books.

But I'm getting off topic. Gahd, do I ramble.

So, a YA heroine. My heroine is strong, smart/intelligent, can kick-ass when the time calls for it and who is not boy-crazy person that utters the word gorgeous in the same sentence as the name of that boy. Sorry, I'm having instalove whiplash.

Tears are not a sign for weakness; you can go ahead, honey, and cry. Let it all out. It is not healthy to keep things inside. But I draw the line at weeping every other page and being too pathetic. Second, if a heroine is described as smart/intelligent then she should demonstrate this by being, well, smart. But a YA heroine is not perfect and despite being smart, she, like most of us, makes stupid decisions and do stupid things. Here is the chance for the heroine to grow and be a better person. There are times when the heroine do the stupidest of anything that those are the times when I'd throw the book at the wall and crazily shout at an inanimate object.

Third, I love them kick-ass heroine. BAMFs. Nothing like a girl who won't wait for her Prince Charming and who would grab her sword and don her own armor.

Lastly, my biggest pet peeve and the cause of a number of headdesks, is the describing the hero as "gorgeous" and every adjective that compares him to Adonis in every instance that the girl sees him. This is often tied to an instalove story. UGH. Yes, we get it. HE IS FINE. HE IS THE ULTIMATE YA CRUSH. I love descriptions and describing the boy is one way to bring a YA crush to life but it's overkill sometimes.

Here is my list of my YA heroines in no particular order:

Meghan Chase from the Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa
Tania from the Faerie Path series by Allan Frewin Jones
Ai Li from Butterfly Swords by Jeannie Lin
Yelena from the Study series by Maria V. Snyder
Merit from Chicagoland Vampires by Chloe Neill
Eona from the Eon/Eona duology by Alison Goodman
Gemma Doyle from the Gemma Doyle trilogy by Libba Bray
Katerina Alexandrovna from the Katerina series by Robin Bridges
Beatrice Prior from the Divergent series by Veronica Roth
Yuki from the Spirit Guide series by E.J. Stevens
Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
Katsa from Graceling by Kristin Cashore
Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins

Yes, I guess that's it. I'll add others later when I remember them.

@ayanamifaerudo....great list! and i feel the same about the heroine's love interest...no need to describe them "gorgeous" as you put it in every single page. this annoys me so much and i will get annoyed too at the heroine if she went boy crazy as well. thanks for sharing :)

Clary Fray from TMI, Tessa Gray from TID, Tris from Divergent, Juliette from Shatter Me. :D
I do love to hang with them if possibe. Draw runes with Clary, play shape shifting with Tessa, jump off trains with Tris, and smash things with Juliette. HAHA! I'm insane.
