Hi fellow bookworms! I have long been looking for a Filipino reading community; tried goodreads and shelfari but I just couldn't find the right website. Anyway, I'll just holler from time to time :D And perhaps post reviews or rants re books. :)

Btw, here are a few notes about me:
*I'm a professor of English, though I believe my forte is literature.
*I'm currently a probee for Kuwentista ng mga Tsikiting (KUTING), an organization of children's book writers.
*I have varied tastes in books -- they range from Harry Potter, The Mysterious Benedict Society, The Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and the like, to novels by John Green, David Levithan, David Sedaris, Mary Higgins Clark, Judith McNaught, Paulo Coelho, and Mitch Albom. There are others worth mentioning, but my memory isn't being very cooperative.

That's it for now. Cheers!

Welcome to RP Prof. Crissemari :) do you handle high school or college level students? please share your fave children's books in the children and YA section in this forum. I also happen to handle that section but i always wanted to have another fellow reader who shares my love for that genre. Do share your reviews on the books you have read so far and build up your virtual library! feel free to roam around here and get acquainted with how things works. Hope you will visit us again here soon and a lot!

Bienvenue, Professor!

David and Sheila here, we are also newbies in this forum. It is I, Sheila, who engages on this forum most of the time. Let me just say that it is because of professors like you that children's minds get opened to the possibility of delving into the almost unchartered world of imagination... I adored my English teachers/mentors back then because they inspired me to escape into the magical world of realms found in books as a temporary asylum from my mundane troubles, until I would be ready to face those troubles head on. Books kept my head above the water, so to speak. Keep doing what you're doing, and see you around! (Or read you around, it's quite awkward to write it that way, but anyway, you get my drift...)

Hello Laila and DS! I am quite giddy about this whole 'readers community' affair, knowing that I have found interesting posts since my first visit. As for children's lit and YA, I have a lot of books in my reading list (I buy anything that intrigues me) and despite my rather unforgiving schedule at work (I'm a desk editor on the side), I force myself to read an hour or so every day, even if it meant covering only a chapter or two.

As for the YA forum, I'm still figuring how the entire site works, so in the meantime I'd post my list and favorites here:
1. Harry Potter series including Quidditch Through the Ages, The Tales of Beedle the Bard, and Fantastic Beasts (got all 3 at Book Sale)
2. The Mysterious Benedict Society series including The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict
3. The Spiderwick Chronicles
4. The Wildwood Chronicles (their 3rd book, Wildwood Imperium, is not yet in local bookstores. Sigh!)
5. The Graveyard Book (Neil Gaiman)
6. The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making (Catherynne Valente) -- there's a sequel, whose title I have forgotten
7. Alice in Winderland and Through the Looking Glass (a classic!)

I try to balance my reading list with classics and literary canons, as well as rare gems from new authors. To tell you the truth, my application as a KUTING member makes reading kid lit a must, since a lot of researching has to be done before I could finally write my manuscript.

Will roam around and participate in forums as long as my schedule permits me. Thanks for the warm welcome! :)

P.S. I currently teach in college, but I have had experience teaching children and high school students as well.

Hi Crissemari,

YA's, who doesn't love them? I have been reading YA's since the time I still wasn't allowed to read YA's. But you know how it is, everyone has that inner child inside, whose humongous appetite is so insatiable that you just have to keep on feeding it, that no matter how far along you've gone on The Kyballion or Hermetic Philosophy you really just have to find out what happened to Professor Snape in the end. The child in me never grew up, and so (with conviction), I am going to start reading Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief tonight, lol!
