Double Dexter
Its always refreshing to read a new Dexter book. You can finally read a sense of “normality” in Dexter’s life as compared to the alternate universe of the Dexter TV series.
What I really found entertaining in Dexter is his dealings with his family. The way he copes up with a normal family life while hiding his real self. In the book, Rita is still alive, the 2 kid monsters are actively in the story and Dexter’s real brother – Brian, (whom Dexter killed in season 2 or 3 in the TV series) comes to visit them every Friday. Brian, also a sick psycho, wanted a sense of belongingness which explains the visits and he also knows about the 2 monsters that Dexter is spawning.
I have always wondered how Dexter can leave his house and spend quality time with his dark passenger without Rita wondering where he’d go. I am sure that cutting the bodies off and “packaging” them takes a lot of time. And now, Jeff Lindsay finally wrote something about it. Rita thinks Dexter is having an affair. Am anxiously waiting how Dexter would escape this one. And the funny thing is, he doesn’t have any clue what Rita is feeling. Haha..
Now, the 2 kids which I couldn’t see in the TV series any more, is now being groomed to be Dexter’s little monsters.. haha.. They will be the future.
Don’t forget Debra. She was portrayed as a foul-mouthed tough cop. Well, the character in the TV series is getting closer to the book character. She now has a baby boy – Nicholas. Dexter’s baby in the book is a girl – Lily-Anne while in the TV series, he has a son named Harrison.
This dynamics and character development is what I find entertaining. Dexter’s adventures with serial killers are just secondary to me. Hehe…
Can’t wait to finish this book.
