Hello all booklovers out there!

My name is Frida Karlssson, and I’m a volunteer from Sweden. Together with partner Max Monsler I came to the Philippines, on the 14th of Dec. 2013 and have been helping the people around Leyte to recover from Haiyan ever since. With donations from Sweden and other European countries, we started a little fundraiser. So far we have done some different activities/projects down here and are now enrolling our next project which includes books! I just found this webforum and thought that it is a great opportunity to reach many book owners at the same time!

After the typhoon Yolanda struck the Philippines, the schools in the affected areas got totally or partially destroyed. The interiors and learning materials where in most cases also damaged. The Department of Education will be handing out new textbooks in the public schools. But most of the schools used to have a little library attached containing encyclopedias, other factual books and a selection of novels. These books are of big importance for the ability to study, and there for something the schools now are in need of.

Through assessments together with principals and teachers in elementary schools outside of Tacloban city we have got to know that the biggest need is factual books, storybooks and also encyclopedias and dictionaries. We are looking into donate as many books we possibly can!

Maybe you can help us by giving away some of your old books?! Or maybe you have any contact details to bookstore owners or other people with a lot of books who can be helpful to us! Maybe you know a library who would be happy to donate books? Or maybe just a friend with a lot of books! (Since we're not from here, we don't have that many contacts.) If the books are brand new, second hand, partly damaged or dusty, that is not a problem since the kids for now are totally without these kind of books. We will happily receive any readable kind!

This is a official invite for you to be part of this project!

The books will be picked up/bought in the beginning of September in Manila by me myself and Max. After the books have been transported to Tacloban, the distribution to the schools will take place in the mid/end of September 2014. Maybe you want to help us collecting books in and around Manila? Or maybe you are in Leyte and want to contribute with books in September?

Please let us know how you can help and support!

BangonLeyte!

With love,

Max and Frida
