I love Rainbow Rowell's works so thank you for choosing her books for the Feb YA challenge. Heehee :D. Now, for the review/reaction part:

Eleanor & Park
Reading Eleanor & Park felt like breathing slowly - taking deep breaths to savor a hint of fresh air. It's a compelling read, may not much in the light-hearted side but definitely not too sappy. What I really liked about the book was how imperfect the characters are. Eleanor is not your typical little miss perfect lead, she's chubby with a fair amount of awkwardness adding to a dash of weirdness. Park's also got a good deal of insecurities in his pockets. Yet getting these two flawed characters together gives you a flawless love story. This may sound weird but I can almost feel their emotions resonating form the pages. The back-and-forth narrative paved way on understanding the characters' feelings more. The story was set in the 80's but you won't feel alienated even if you weren't born in that era. As for the ending, honestly I'm a fan of solid endings, the all-loose-ends-tied-up ones. As well as happy ever afters too. But I'm totally okay with how the story wrapped up (or for most people, cliff-hanged). I think I'd be more disappointed if the author tried to fix all the problems and gave a well-defined solution for everything. In this case, the open ending worked. And it wasn't like there was no some kind of a hint left. In my mind, they're together. And they will have the happy ever after they deserve in the right time. ;)

Fangirl
I was actually a bit skeptical to read this at first because the book description didn't appeal to me that much. But thanks to the rave reviews of some people, I decided to give it a shot and I was so glad I did. I even read the book twice in just a span of a month! This book felt like you're reading two stories at the same time. I sometimes wish that Simon Snow series is as real as Harry Potter. It also introduced me to the world of fan fiction. I haven't read one, I admit that I'm not too keen on fanfics but it just shows how strongly the readers feel about the books and characters. I may not appreciate fanfics but I can totally relate to Cath on that part, being a bookworm myself who gets totally engrossed with stories I read. Though I think that Cath gets ahead of herself sometimes. :)

Anyway, I love how the author presented the story with such simplicity but managing to make it deep at the same time. The characters felt genuine. Each of their personalities will make you root for them despite of their flaws. And Levi, oh sweet Levi. It was because of him that I'm having thoughts about wanting to be with someone whose hair smells like coffee. And even flirting with a Starbucks barista. Haha. That's how much I adore Levi. His moments with Cath especially those after they've been together often made me hold my breath while reading. It made me want to dive headfirst into the story and replace Cath pronto. This book definitely has the warm, fuzzy feels that'll sweep you off your feet. It succeeds on playing out the elements in the story - family relationship, love and sense of self-worth. As far as lessons go, you'll see plenty - getting out of your comfort zone, not losing grip on things that are important, taking chances and moving on. Fangirl is undoubtedly a great read. <3
