It's time we start a READING REVOLUTION in the Philippines!
Reading is so fundamental such that if we want intelligent discourse to happen
in the Philippines, we need to get our kababayans to be good READERS! Currently, they get
their information only from "showbiz" personalities, and noontime shows like Eat Bulaga.
We have a TV culture. We do not have a reading culture. We have a soap opera culture and a showbiz
mentality. Gossiping is also a popular past time - we spread "the news" by word of mouth.

Our kababayans are NOT fond of reading generally. This resulted from the lack
of good and enticing books to read in our elementary level schools.
Good storybooks are what hook us to reading early on...then we become habitual readers.
How do we help EACH Filipino child today to develop a love for books and reading so that one
day, sometime soon, we will have what we may call a reading culture among Filipinos?

Pinoy Reading Buddies is a group that is promoting love of reading among our Filipino
children, especially among those who do not have access to enticing picture and storybooks. We
work with public school teachers in making these books available in their classrooms, and
in making sure that the children get to read with a partner every chance they get.
Pinoy Reading Buddies help pinoy kids develop their confidence as readers and learners;
collaborating with a partner to that they will learn to be better readers even though their
teachers are busy and overwhelmed (which is the case in many of our public schools.
