Hello! I'm a newbie...

Hi everyone!

My name is Trixie, a newbie. This is my first time to join a forum, so I'm not sure how this is done. Here goes...

I love books. But I haven't been reading for a while. I guess it's because I've been overwhelmed by the daily mundane struggles. I work in a BPO company as a software tester. This is not exactly my dream job, but this pays my bills. At the moment, I'm reading "Eat, Pray, Love" and "The Happiness Project" alternately. I've started reading these since last year but I couldn't seem to finish any of the two. Maybe, I'm more of a Gabriel Garcia Marquez or Jostein Gaarder type of reader. I joined this forum because I'm looking forward to talk with people who enjoy and appreciate books the way I do. And maybe, I might just be motivated to actually finish a book within a month (my goal).

hello Trixie and welcome to Read Philippines...which i fondly call as RP :)

I understand that real life does gets in the way of our reading habits. Back in the days when i used to work full time i barely find time to read for pleasure. It was only when i took over our family business that i finally got back to my long time passion for reading. I was into contemporary and historical romance for many years before i caught the fever for Young Adult or what we call YA. Which is why i am the moderator for the children and young adult section here. However, i am far from being a young adult myself but my heart i think will be young forever :D I have my monthly YA challenge read...and there are surprise fab prizes that awaits the winner.
We have a monthly book of the month to read from time to time that is being handled by one of our member. Our latest read was Stardust by Neil Gaiman. We usually put it on vote of what will be our next book of the month read will be. So hopefully a read along with our next book assignment will help you get you on track to reading and finishing a book on time and at the same time we can discuss it among ourselves.
Feel free to familiarize the features of the forum and who knows you get to discover other books and learn to like other genre as well. We hope to see you more here and don't hesitate to share with us your thoughts and reviews about the books you have read :)
Personally, i consider myself a fast reader...i can finish at least 5 books a month...considering i do have a lot of time in my hand. So i do understand why it is a struggle to finish a book when one is working and busy with other stuff. But if you are passionate about reading then you will find time for it. I suggest you aim to read a certain number of chapters per day. Just so you can have a feel of what is the actual pacing of your reading. Normally, i tend to forget about time when i am so engrossed with a book. I like to read during night time or after midnight till dawn. So maybe you should also find your happy hours that fits your reading mood :)

this is getting too long...hehehe! you will soon be "meeting" other members from all walks of life. We hope we can help you succeed in your reading goal.

Hello Trixie! Welcome to RP!

We have the same "reading problem" ahehhehe. I'm into thriller/YA/crime novels but I try to read across the genres. Hope to see you around.

Thank you both for welcoming me. I'm intrigued with the monthly challenge. I think might join. I guess, I'd better start reading Neil Gaiman's Stardust.

See you around! ;)

Thanks everyone! :)

I usually read, like what I mentioned earlier, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Jostein Gaarder. But I have a lot of other "unread" books in my shelves. I noticed, I easily lose my focus when I start reading. Can anyone recommend a good book that can probably help me get motivated/ enthusiastic into actually finishing it? I'd probably need an "easy" read books. I just can't get the momentum I used to have with reading.

I appreciate your suggestions.

Lost and stuck,
triksi
