Hey guys, sorry, ngayon lang ako nag-post sa member introductions, last week of May pa yata ako nandito :) Sabi ni Jem, magpakilala ako dito. I'm Laurainne but I prefer to be called Laui since it's less complicated.

Literary preferences - historical fiction (particularly the Oriental themed ones), historical reads, biographies of monarchs and whoever strikes me as interesting, general non-fiction what-nots. I also read fantasy like GoT and HP series. My favorite author to date is Robert K. Massie because of his Nicholas and Alexandra. I wanted to cry, to be happy, to be mad and to be frustrated all at the same time while reading it. After finishing the book, the feeling was surreal for like 3 days.

Current reads - A Clash of Kings by George Martin, The Gulag by Anne Applebaum, Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose and Empress by Sha San. Sorry, looks crazy lang, but I really do juggle with multiple books when one becomes too heavy for the heart to bear. This happens in war-themed books. Ayun, that's quite a bit of sharing. Hope to explore interesting threads here pag hindi masyadong busy. :)

Welcome Laui to RP!

Keep posting on certain threads about your books of interests. I am more into YA fantasy, paranormal, romance and such and also historical and contemporary romance. So different from your taste i'm sure..hehehe. Once in a while i do try read a book from another genre when i'm in the mood. Interesting din yung biographies about Monarchs very fascinating kasi yung stories nila :)

Halo bagamundo! I agree, real events are sometimes more peculiar... you wonder if they are for real. =)) The logic and principles behind the events a decade before would bother you at times because normal people (well, in our era) don't follow that. Haha!

Well, I'm planning to do a review of all the good reads I have accomplished. I just wish my memory's kinda fresh pa by then.

Yes! Will do Laila :) Paranormal seems interesting too. What can you recommend?

I do skip from genre to genre depending on my mood. But for now, I am more inclined with non-fiction and it's quite bothersome because I used to love fiction! Maybe in a few months my liking will take a huge turn once again. Haha! And yes, I agree that biographies about monarchs are fascinating. Lalo na yung era nila Queen Victoria. Nakapila din among my to-read yung We Two: Victoria and Albert, Rulers, Partners, and Rivals by Gillian Gill. I was able to view the sample in Amazon and I got excited by it. Since you are interested in historical romance, you might want to look into this too. :)

^______________^ Yay! Welcome, welcome, Laui. We're glad to have you on board.

If you can't find a thread that's to your liking, you can always start one up. Who knows? Maybe there's another soul or 5 out there who'd like to jump in and share. :D

Ah yes, monarchs. The infamous Marie Antoinette, Mary Queen of Scots and if I'm not mistaken there's one called Lady Jane Grey. I remember there was a painting of her in the National Gallery in London before she was beheaded. It was very lifelike it gave me the creeps.

Indeed, maybe you meant a century before? Now I'm feeling so old haha :) I'm particularly interested in the French revolution, the Holocaust, the Killing Fields, the Gulags. Mostly genocides lol :) I hope you can recommend some for that. :)

Sorry! Yeah, what I meant was a century ago. Got a little mixed up with work kanina. :P

I'm currently reading Anne Applebaum's The Gulag. It's quite dragging at times but the richness of how the history was told can quite offset that. :D You might be interested with these too, though I haven't read them yet. Both were written by Saul Friedlander - Nazi Germany and the Jews: The Years of Persecution and Nazi Germany and the Jews: The Years of Extermination. I just found them in one of the non-fiction libraries I've hoarded then searched in goodreads.com how it fares with readers. Mataas ratings that's why it also appealed to me. It got an average of 4.15 out of 5 stars, with 3 stars as the least individual rating.

I'm also reading Stephen Ambrose's Band of Brothers. I found the HBO series very interesting that's why I also wanted to pick up the book. So many books to read! I wish I had all the time in the world to do that.
