Pyramids by Terry Pratchett

Since the Malazan series can be quite exhausting physically and emotionally, I make it a habit to wash it down with a good Discworld novel!

Pyramids is the sixth novel (I think) of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. I finished it just after reading Midnight Tides by Steven Erikson. Like most of Terry's Discworld novels, Pyramids is a short read. But what it lacks in pages more than makes up for it in side-splitting humor as is signature with Terry's works. Highly irreverent with the genre, the series would be sure to cause you to break some silly grins and sudden laughter in the classroom, the park, or in the train. You're reading Discworld, they would understand.

Pyramids is a story about a reluctant Pharaoh Prince who decides he would rather be an assassin (who doesn't like killing, really, only likes running around above those buildings). When his father dies, responsibility forces him to fulfill his duties while his country plunges into chaos as inexplicably, the gods come alive and war threatens its borders.

Safe With Me (With Me In Seattle #5) by Kristen Proby...this is Caleb Montgomery (the ex Navy Seal) and Brynna's story. They need each other and so they actually fit together along with Brynn's twin girls who were just adorable and the awesome dog BIX! I enjoyed this installment. But I really want Matt's story now. There is a new Montgomery in town and just as delish ;)

CONVICTED (Consequences #3) by Aleatha Romig...aaahhh! love the freaking conclusion of this series. I love the unexpected twist and turns. And everything is not what it seems. Tony and Claire you finally got your HEA. If you love scandal, intrigues, manipulations and loads of drama and bad romance that is actually really amazing that will drive your mind crazy then this series is for you.

"Theirs was a long, complicated story with a monster and a knight. What made their story unique was that these two players were the same person" ~ Convicted

Iron's Prophecy (IRon Fey #4.5) by Julie Kagawa...my reading mood was kinda bleak this past few days since that scary earthquake hit our area. So this was just light and enjoyable enough to get me back into the mood. I also realize just how much i missed one of my fave trio characters. Now I can't wait for The Iron Traitor to come out this Nov. hoping that Kierran will choose to do the right thing or whether the prophecy will indeed come to past :(

A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole.

I got very much interested in this novel because of the circumstances surrounding it. The author commited suicide 11 yrs before it was published and won pulitzer prize in 1981. It was the mother of the author who peddled this book to be published.

Comedy ang dating ng libro but what really struck me is the love/tolerance of the mother toward his son. Siguro ito yung character ng nanay nya in real life. Ang "kulit" ng bida dito.

The ending is satisfying but it left me a feeling of sadness knowing the author commited suicide.

Antoine de Saint-Exupery's The Little Prince.
-It kind of reminded me with Paulo Coelho's Manuscript found in Accra... Full of philosophical insights and wisdoms...

Naked (The Blackstone Affair #1) by Raine Miller...i'm back to my sexy sexy romance. I like it enough but not as compelling as the Crossfire series. It didn't end well for Ethan Blackstone, but i'm sure he will win his beautiful American girl back. Have i mentioned he is British? but somehow i can't imagine his accent here maybe because the author who is American is struggling to get that idea across even if the story took place in London.

All In (The Blackstone Affair #2) by Raine Miller...aaaannnd they are back together again folks...color me surprise! hehehe. But poor Brynne she has such a traumatic sad past that is still haunting her till now. But new threat arises again and it seems the past won't stay in the past no matter how much she wants t move on with Ethan. Again i still like it enough but nothing spectacular. But this one is from Ethan's POV so now i'm hearing his British self at last.

1Q84, Kafka on the Shore, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. By Haruki Murakami.

Finished these books fairly recent. Among the three i like the wind up bird kasi bizarre ang mga scenes. Imagine doing soul searching inside a well. I like the stories of a japanese soldier during ww2. But in the end you'll have more questions than answer. Maybe Murakami left this questions to our imagining.

In kafka and 1Q84, i like the style of having the perspective of the characters on every chapter. This suits my style in listening to the book. I assign a particular voice to each character thereby listening to assigned voice to every chapter. I cant forget the johnie walker character in kafka. Theres also col. Sanders of KFC too.

1Q84. Ang habaaaa. Hanggang book2 ok na ko sana. Ang take ko dito kaya sinama pa pov ni Ushikawa sa book 3 is that he's living in the real world while Aomome and Tengo is in the unreal or something like that. What really hit me hard here (pardon the pun hehe) is the fact that Tengo had sex with 17 yr old Fuka-eri. Maybe in Japan theyre loose a little bit regarding sex. Anyway 1Q84 is good love story, satisfying and complete compared to wind up bird.
Isa pa pala, there is this NHK collector in this book. Imagine having one in PH collecting fee for PTV 4 haha!
