DIVERGENT

The place is future Chicago, where people are divided into factions – Abnegation for the selfless, Candor for the honest, Amity for the peaceful, Dauntless for the brave and Erudite for the knowledgeable.
We have Beatrice Prior as our protagonist, a girl born in the Abnegation sector but the idea of being selfless just don’t come natural for her. So when she was 16, in her Choosing Ceremony, she chose to transfer to Dauntless. Where she changed her name into Tris and met the leading man in this story – Four.
And a story of love, bravery, sacrifice and the story that the whole YA Universe will adore BEGINS.
I read the book when I was in 4th year college, read it first before I get to know that there is a book called Hunger Games, hehe . and when Four was described in the book I immediately shared it to my fellow friends who were as excited as me to meet guys as hot as Four. ;)

So first, what got me hooked is the world created by Miss Roth in Divergent. I got so immersed in the world built in Divergent that when Im reading it I easily forgot the outside world. It is like reading a Video Game – a perfectly created world within the bounds of a paperback.

I like the journey of Tris – from the self-conscious and confused Girl-from-Abnegation to the fierce and strong Tris-of-Dauntless. I like how she fought instead of crawling to some corner when she was being bullied and tormented by Peter. So I get to relate with Tris in that mindset.

Four, well he’s hot so automatically I like him. I like how he automatically shifts into PROTECTIVE MODE when he found out that Tris is a Divergent. That was sweet. ;)

The book packed with action scenes and I have to reread some of the paragraphs for my imagination to catch up with Ms. Roth’s book.

Divergent is a hard-to-put-down book.

INSURGENT

In Insurgent we have Tris, who is now fully aware that she is a Divergent. Still, we have the impossibly sexy Four. And as their relationship is put into test so is the harmony between the factions.

Gone was also the competitive Tris, here we get to see a more emotional Tris that is devastated as she struggles over the loss of her parents and guilt after killing his friend Will during the attack in Abnegation (Oh having Will dead was sad, Christina and him was just perfect for each other.) And that makes her more human for me, getting to see not only the hardness in Tris but also her vulnerability.

With Four, I saw more emotions in him in this book. I saw his frustrations, his vulnerability, his regrets but he is still he is the same loving and caring and in full protective mode with Tris.

Unlike Divergent where we only saw most of the time the dauntless lifestyle, in Insurgent we get to look at each faction. It was good to see how their everyday life looks like, their rules, principles and beliefs.

The book ended in such a way na pwede bukas agad for release na ang Allegiant?! It was such a cliff-hanger but still exciting.
Over-all, mas nagging addict ako sa Divergent kaysa sa Insurgent.

ALLEGIANT

The final installment to the Divergent series. Told from the viewpoints of Tris and Tobias, Allegiant deals with the information revealed in Insurgent. The faction system ceased to exist in this series as the factionless rule now Chicago.

First, I enjoyed how the book was narrated in Tris and Tobias POV. It’s nice seeing a situation in two different eyes.
Allegiant brought us to a bigger Divergent world, letting us see what is outside the fence. Most of my questions were also answer in Allegiant: what brought the establishment of the Faction system? What happened to other states? Do they also have a similar set-up with that of Chicago?

Tris had really evolved from the Beatrice Prior of Abnegation. Making daring decisions. And although I don’t agree with the decision she made in the ending, especially the effect of that decision, i understood where she come from.

I thought it was a perfect ending for the series.
