Hello my fellow Rpersss!

Can't believe the first half of summer is over and we are now in the month of fiestas. I have something special for this month as it is the first year anniversary of my YA Challenges. I would like to feature the works of John Green to celebrate also my love for his "The Fault In Our Stars" novel and the film adaptation will soon be in theaters near you this coming June 5, 2014...isn't that exciting! I hope you have your dozen tissues ready.

So here we go, i challenged you to read three of the following books of John Green as follows:

The Fault In Our Stars
Looking For Alaska
Paper Towns

Here are the mechanics :
** Leave a review for each book in the thread below. These reviews should be posted separately.
** Below each review, indicate your most fave quote from that book and your reasons why.
** After your most fave quote indicate your most fave character from that book and reasons why.
** In a separate post, kindly post three photos that will best describe your feelings about each book with a short description below about each photo.
** This is open to Philippine resident RP members only.
** This challenge will start from May 7, 2014 - May 31, 2014. So that means only reviews that are posted within these dates will be considered valid entries.

I decided to feature only three titles from John Green works. I wasn't so sure if any of the interested participants can finish four books in a month. So i scaled it down to three. But just because you have read the other books na, it will just be easier for you to give your best reviews :)

Natapos ko na yung Paper Towns! :D

It has quite a lot of symbolisms and metaphors :O but i guess that is what made the book more interesting and gave it a soul :) It gave the book and the characters meaning and depth. The second part became quite a bit dragging for me but starting from the 3rd part onwards, i was just laughing my heart out at Ben and their road trip  HAHAHA but myohmy... i never expected for them to find Margo like that... which makes her an even more mysterious and complex person. But i just think that the author wants us to know that "She (Margo) is just a girl." like anybody else. That what people see are just different mirrors of her, some upscaled and some downscaled, different expectations and varying ways on how they treat her. But that's the problem. We always look at people how we want to look at them, what we want to see in them, but they're just humans like us. And Margo was just tired of it all, of living up to the expectations of others, of being a paper doll... Well that's how i see it :O

I guess my favorite character would be Ben. I mean despite his being a little unsensitive from Q's perspective, he has a funny character that just makes you want to laugh! And he does try to be a good friend, even skipping graduation to help Q find Margo :D

My most favourite quote would probably be...
“Isn't it also that on some fundamental level we find it difficult to understand that other people are human beings in the same way that we are? We idealize them as gods or dismiss them as animals.” :) Like i said, we constantly downplay or upplay?? people but they're just really humans like us =))

sorry ang late ko na :( hindi na nga may eh, june na! ngayon ko lang natapos yung Looking for Alaska! but anyways, i'll just share my thoughts over John Green's book here! :)

I should say, John Green is a really great author. He injects universal messages into YA books that i, personally, can relate too. His books are not just for pursuit of a good story of romance or humour or adventure or teenage lives (though they are good stories of those themes). They also go on a journey with the readers in the discovery of the meaning of acceptance, of self-discovery, and specifically in his book Looking for Alaska, of suffering and hope and the quest for a Great Perhaps.

I couldn't relate much to the death of Alaska, the dear friend of Pudge and Colonel and Lara and Takumi since i never really experienced one myself, gladly, but I could understand their pursuit of a great perhaps and of hoping despite the suffering. My favourite quote would be:

"Those awful things are survivable, because we are as indestructible as we believe ourselves to be...We need never be hopeless, because we can never be irreparably broken. We think that we are invincible because we are. We cannot be born, and we cannot die."

We keep on moving forward and keep on going on, hoping, looking for the great perhaps, because nothing can stop us, only we can stop ourselves. and if one moment, we cease to hope and give up, then we withdraw into ourselves and our lives will become a waste of fear and worrying and uselesness because we gave up ourselves to the fear and hopelessness of the "crooked" world, which the Colonel called it. Life will always be full of suffering but living life is hoping all will be alright and making the most out of it, living to the fullest, searching for the great perhaps :)
