my intro

Hi there!

Im not really a reader when i was young but my kid brother is. Sa kasamaang palad ako ay nabigo sa pagibig at para ma-divert ang aking pag iisip ni-try ko basahin ang mga librong nakakalat sa bahay. Reading is a great escape in the beginning now its a way of life.

I've discovered Dectalk text to speech software in 1997. Im still using it until now. Before, i used to scan paperback pages, convert it to text and let my PC read it to me. Now, i just convert epub or mobi to mp3s and listen to it in my smartphone. Sometimes i read while listening to the spoken words of the book. I crank up the words/min, this way i reduced my reading time in half or less. But normally i just listen to the book while in transit or doing monotonous chores (laba, luto, plantsa, linis). Listening to the book is very helpful when your waiting for someone or something or playing games. I have done this for so long that I've stop counting how many books I've read or listen to.

My pet project now is to read all the Pulitzer prize winning books. Just finished reading the winners from 2000 to 2010 and some. I also want to read books from Nobel prize laureate for literature.

Before they announced the winner of Nobel 2013 I read that Haruki Murakami was the frontrunner. (Sayang d sya nanalo). I started reading/listening to some of his works - kafka on the shore (may pagka-porn but i like it...not the *removed* hehe) and The wind up bird Chronicle (anime-esque ang dating, love the sub stories). Am halfway na sa 1Q84 so far its very good. Murakami = pure genius.

Thats my intro...

Hope to share the insight of someone who listens to the book rather than reading...

Welcome to RP Mark...you have a very interesting reading habit. I also envy your reading project as well. But i have a goal also this year to read about 220 books..i have read 208 books as of this time :) I have tried audio books with Twilight series. I did find it enjoyable. The narrator was quite good if you are into the story you wouldn't mind the pacing of the narrator.
We hope you can share your thoughts about the books you have read so far. Who knows we might also be interested to look it up as well. Take care!

Thx.

Hello, Mark and welcome to RP. :D

Just like MissRed, I haven't really tried audio books but I do enjoy having someone else read short stories out loud to me. :P haha bedtime+storytime ang dating. It's probably not the same thing but I think it's great.

Also, I agree with you on the Murakami front. :P I think he's pretty amazing too. ^^ I'm still getting into the swing of reading all of his books. I began my Murakami trail with Dance, dance, dance and I've a couple of other books of his stacked right next to my bed waiting to be read.

Ang galing ng pet project mo. Great idea. Pahiram minsan pag may time na ako at ubos na ang toberead pile/list ko :D

Welcome ulit sa RP. We're happy to have you. ^____^

If it's not too much trouble please "like" our FB page. It's not all that active but it's where we put up announcements, photos and other things.

Hello jemchan.

All of my books are in epub format just let me know will give you a copy. One of the reason why i like reading award winning books is that you get to know more about it because of the buzz it creates. You get to read write ups about it.

Buti na lang meron RP. Noon for personal consumption lang ang pagbabasa ko. Pero ngayon with RP, its like having someone na mapagsasabihan mo ng nabasa mo. Parang outlet kung baga....

Thx

Very few heavy heavy books, mostly YA and romance yung reading interest ko. But other members here have already introduced me to some other genre. I have loads of time that's why i was able to hit my goal but it's not necessarily good for my eyes and health...hehehe. Laging puyat sa kakabasa.

Hi laila.

Thats why im into txt to speech to free up my hands and eyes and just imagine what the book says. Thanks to epub...

Napansin ko na monopolize mo na ung thread sa most recently read. Galing talaga. Am not into romance but when i read LOVE STORY by Erich Segal a long time ago napaiyak ako nito literally.

BTW, YA is young adult? (Newbie pa kasi...)

hei mark.. welcome! arjaye here...
listening to books, yes ive tried. first, vampire diaries.. then the first book of game of thrones. aliw! but then na realized ko, imbes na magawa ko sya habang me nigagawa pa kong iba, mas nafofocus ako sa kanya..kasi ayoko me mamiss na words o lines na hindi maintindihan. plus na coconcentrate ako sa boses ng narrator.. haha kaya i went back to reading.
and wow! ure kind of books are hebigat. ma try nga din yan minsan. thanks for the suggestion, though. hihi see u around here in rp, mark! :)
