I once saw a St. Bernard at Mines View Baguio where you get to have photo ops for a fee. Its huge, I'm guessing not more than 150 lbs. But Cujo at 200 lbs, more like a bear than a dog.

The story is a case of 'wrong place at wrong time' meets 'big dog gone wild.' Two families, a tragic ending for one and relieve for the other.

I read this book with a critical mindset looking for loopholes and loose ends. King is very clever in priming his readers about Frank Dodd, old lady Aunt Evvie's weather prediction and kids vomitting blood and getting sick and all. Leading his readers to imagine that these things has something to do with Cujo's transformation. After i got pass through these parts I'm hooked.

I got a laugh at how Joe Camber suffered his fate (ouch!). The guy Steve Kemp is more deserving.

The end part is a race against time. I never expected the outcome to be that way.

I enjoyed the book immensely. The story is seamless and plausible. This is the just second book of King that i read (Christine the other). I'm not much into the horror genre, maybe i'll make King an exemption.

@ summer hi!
D ko alam may chapters pala Cujo. My copy is one continuous wall of text haha. I dont know if its just me, pero na engrossed ako nito. I gobbled this novel in two chunks. :D

@ laila hi!
We can pluck out the details of the ads part, the story will not alter. But for me sub stories and side informations are a welcome. It makes great topic at dinner talks haha...wait till you get to the part where Steve Kemp went back to the Trenton house am sure youre gonna get upset. :D

My headaches are primarily due to high blood pressure. yes, i'm on maintenance na... :-(
Partly na rin siguro because i was reading non stop in the past few weeks.

Di na ako makakahabol. Sorry guys.

@missRed...take it easy nalang and pick up a book whenever you are in good form ;)

I am now into 72% of the book...HOLY CR@P!!! things have gone into overdrive now between the rabid Cujo and the busted Pinto car...with Donna and little Tad trapped inside i might add! I got chills at the back of my neck just visualizing the way the scary ass huge face of Cujo growling and attacking the car window so i can understand that situation can be very traumatizing to little Tad.

Meanwhile Steve Kemp the loser has absolutely gone bat sh@t crazy at the TRenton's house O_o i have now reduced him to an immature sore loser xD @markabc...you are right i am totally disgusted x( And now he wants to take things further with the husband??? Sore much?

It has come down to a waiting game between Cujo and Donna, which one will outlast each other in the scorching heat of the summer...probably psyching each other out!

word : "They were going to the dogs, the both of them" ~ George Meara, Mr. Postman (referring Joe & Gary)

This is getting intense...

I just finished it today! it was terrifying!!! OMFG!!! when Donna stepped out of the car for the last time it was like this is it...her last stand or die trying! I think i screamed in those part. I was upset that little Tad didn't make it. The trauma was just too much :(
Knowing how the rabid mind of Cujo was breaking down was agonizing and you are right @mark the last 25% of the book was just a race against time of whether help will arrive in time or anyone will work it out in time to check out the Chamber's place. I still don't like the over all story but i gave it a 3stars for the thrilling factor and SK really knows how to put you on the edge of your seat and proceed to rip your heart and guts out! In the end tragic for the Trenton's and sort of relief for the Camber's.
@summer i will be getting my stuff toy Odie his shot just to be sure ;) lol!

I read CUJO years ago when I was in high school pa. But I felt I kind of pitied Cujo, but I really don't remember why, meaning I have to re-read it. I'm also a Stephen King fan : )

I give it a 4 star for not being farfetched. I was sympathetic at Vic and Roger doing last pitch to save their jobs, good thing it turned out their way. I was expecting Frank Dodd or Cujo would spring out off Tad's closet while Kemp is doing his thing, but none of that happen. I thought this novel would give notoriety to St Bernard gone berserk as Jaws to Great White shark, but obviously they're on a different league.

still reading at a snail's pace...

@mark: I'm reading online at may mga chapters dun, so I thought the novel really has chapters. I still can't find a hardcopy, but at least I can read for free, haha! May name yung St. Bernard sa Baguio, hindi ko lang maalala, pero ang laki nga nun at mukhang mabigat!

Nasa part na ako na nagkita sila Cujo and Tad, and they looked really cute together. Gusto ko rin sumakay sa aso nung bata pa ako! King uses heavy foreshadowing, mas lalo na when the dad thought that Cujo might bite Tad's head off and Tad stuck his hand into the dog's mouth. It was interesting that King tried to make the reader understand what was going on in Cujo's mind. Sayang nga lang nahawaan na ng rabies si Cujo :(

@laila: mamamatay si Tad?! Noooooooo :o

haha, ang cute, at ang pula-pula ng dila nya! ang laki ng mga mata, pwedeng shocked or pleasantly surprised and expression niya :D

@anne: yehey, Stephen King fan! I've loved SK ever since I read Duma Key. Nabasa mo na ba 'yun? What's you favorite SK novel? :D

downtime! matatapos ko na yung libro by tomorrow, so here are some questions for those who have finished reading Cujo :geek:

1. What makes the story of Cujo scary? How would you compare it to other horror novels of Stephen King (or other authors din, kung gusto nyo XD)?
2. Which character had the most memorable or brutal death for you? Which character(s) do you think deserved to die?
3. What is the significance of troubled marriages in the story? How is Vic and Donna's deteriorating marriage related to Cujo's deteriorating mind?
4. What passage or quote in the story made an impression on you? Why?
5. For people who love dogs or live with them, how did the story of Cujo affect you?
