Fateful by Claudia Gray

Titanic + werewolves? Odd combination. But i found Fateful an "okay" read.

So here's what i love about the book:

ALEC! He has a way with words, i love all the scenes that he was there. I love that he doesn't care about the rules of the society. And TESS , she was a likeable character. I love that her character was brave and courageous. I also love the secondary characters - Ned, Irene, Myriam. So basically i love the characters! :)

What i don't like is the distinct lack of emotion. When Tess and Alec confessed their love for each other - that was supposed to be romantic but i did not feel anything. And even when the sink was sinking, that should have been a heartbreaking moment but there was just no feel for me.

I just felt that there was something missing with the book and the ending althhough Tess and Alec re-united so that's a YEHEY moment for me but the ending was just so abrupt, i don't know.

But i love Alec and Tess, i'd love to read more about their growing relationship and their fight against the Brotherhood. :)

Asylum by Madeleine Roux
Rating 3/5

The last horror book I read was ages ago. It was back in college (10 years) and that was Salem's Lot by Stephen King. I remember really liking it a lot.

Now to Asylum, the setting in an asylum is familiar. We've seen movies with that. But how the author described it did not creep me out. It was, I believe, simple.

The writing wasn't bad but I have problems with the story line and progression. I want it to be intense and scary and spooky but it just wasn't there. I did enjoy several parts and it got me intrigued but the rest was just okay.

I couldn't connect with the characters. Dan, Abby, and Jordan were said to be bright students but their were are a bit childish.

On a brighter note, I loved the pictures in the book—eerie and spooky.

Overall, I liked it but not much.

Sanctum by Madeleine Roux
3/5 stars

Okay. Was there an improvement from the first book? I'd say YES. I think the pacing was much better. Much more intriguing. Much more interesting. Creepier and spookier. But I did not enjoy as much as I want it. I got frustrated, I mean there were parts that were so engrossing that I could not put it down and then next chapter it went downhill.

The characters have grown but not much. I still have problems connecting.

Still, I loved the pictures. I think it was cool.

Overall, definitely an improvement from Asylum but horror factor is lacking.

AsyLUM by Madeleine Roux
3/5

Ive got to say honestly, theres nothing scary in this tale of Dan and his adventure in the historical brookline asylum. In fact, i did not get much connection between him and his new found friends in abby and Jordan. The creepy feature was quite forced since it was happening in an asylum where it was to be believed that many notable killers and mentally challenged people were housed.

Ive got nothing to say much since i was not into horror stories that did not quite live for its purpose.
A read but not as interesting enough even visuals did not help. :(

Here were our crazy pictures during our asylum-inspired halloween party, there were only a few pictures during the live show - with all the kids crying because of our faces, our photographer was busy consoling the children instead of taking pictures. :)
