You can’t get them out of your head.

Callie lost her parents when the Spore Wars wiped out everyone between the ages of twenty and sixty. She and her little brother, Tyler, go on the run, living as squatters with their friend Michael and fighting off renegades who would kill them for a cookie.

Callie’s only hope is Prime Destinations, a disturbing place in Beverly Hills run by a mysterious figure known as the Old Man. He hires teens to rent their bodies to Enders—seniors who want to be young again. Callie, desperate for the money that will keep her, Tyler, and Michael alive, agrees to be a donor. But the neurochip they place in Callie’s head malfunctions and she wakes up in the life of her renter.

Callie soon discovers that her renter intends to do more than party—and that Prime Destinations’ plans are more evil than she could ever have imagined.

Someone is after Starters like Callie and Michael—teens with chips in their brains. They want to experiment on anyone left over from Prime Destinations—Starters who can be controlled and manipulated. With the body bank destroyed, Callie no longer has to rent herself out to creepy Enders. But Enders can still get inside her mind and make her do things she doesn't want to do. Like hurt someone she loves. Having the chip removed could save her life—but it could also silence the voice in her head that might belong to her father. Callie has flashes of her ex-renter Helena's memories, too . . . and the Old Man is back, filling her with fear. Who is real and who is masquerading in a teen body?

No one is ever who they appear to be, not even the Old Man. Determined to find out who he really is and grasping at the hope of a normal life for herself and her younger brother, Callie is ready to fight for the truth. Even if it kills her.

Starters by Lissa Price
Genre : YA sci-fi post apocalyptic futuristic thriller
Rating : 2/5

I am quite sad that i wasn't so impressed with this book. To think it sounds really promising to me. There wasn't enough details on the world building and the main characters themselves were not that compelling. Don't even bother with the lame attempt at a love triangle...just ugh! Callie and Blake has absolutely no chemistry whatsoever for me. However, there was this pretty wicked twist towards the end that turned out to be one of my theory about who the real Old Man is...that i was still caught by surprise when it was revealed. But it made me pay more attention about the villain. I wish i could bring myself to really like the book but frankly i find it dragging the first half of the book, before the pace of the action scenes really picked up. Callie has a lot of potential coz she has these various impressive skills but it was never really showcased in this book. It was like reading a retelling of a sci-fi Cinderella/Body Snatchers LOL! (there was even a reference of a Cinderella scene in here) and it also reminded me strongly of The Host...coz of that hearing another voice in your head kind of thing. The ending wasn't so bad though it actually made me want to continue on to the next book.

i gave it a 3/5 rating.
Cinderella actually came into my mind when you know what happened in the "awards" night. Lol.
I have not read The Host but i have seen the movie, and yes the talking in your head reminded of that and that with of Maze Runner.

it was not bad but not that really good. I'm still going to pick-up the second book.

im glad u liked it better than i did. but Callie as a heroine wasn't really compelling enough. like uve said u can't seem to connect to her... i keep hoping to see those strong traits and skills but she keeps holding them back. seriously the plot is begging for it.

there is so much potential in Callie's character. i just wish the second book would bring that out.
