Anna Series by Kendare Blake

Postby ullaleng » May 1st, 2013, 11:35 pm

I can't say I'm happy about being the first one to post about the Anna Series (Anna Dressed in Blood and Girl of Nightmares). Has no one here read this yet?
Here's the first book's blurb from the author's web site...

JUST YOUR AVERAGE BOY-MEETS-GIRL, GIRL-KILLS-PEOPLE STORY...

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.

So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father's mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.

When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn't expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he's never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.

And she, for whatever reason, spares his life.

I loved this series! A book buddy from Tumblr recommended this in 2011, but I never had the chance to read it until last August 2012. But I guess it was a blessing in disguise that I only read it at that time, because the 2nd book was only released days after that. I didn't have to wait long!

I just remembered this 'coz I'm building my library here now and thought about looking up what you guys are saying about this series... But not one post.

So what do you guys think? Oh, and a movie is in the works. Not too happy about that, though. Stephenie Meyer Prods' the one working on it.
War makes monsters of men and Chaos Walking makes an emotional wreck of me.

Hi! I have heard of this series. But i pushed it back in my TBR since my close friend who have read it first was not impressed with it. She was kinda disappointed with the story. I handle the YA section here and I would love to learn more of your fave series you are welcome to post your reviews there and post new topics about other YA books you want to feature there.
Back to Anna Dressed in Blood hmm maybe I will give it a chance sooner than later. I will soon start on my Chaos Walking Series and hope to finished that soon as well :)

Technically speaking, I'm not impressed by it too. I love the "voice" of the narrator, though. Plus, I've never read anything like it before, so maybe that's it and the ending made me cry. I always love the books that make me cry. I'm not sure if that says anything about the books or just me. :P
Off topic! Haha. Yes, Chaos Walking! Gods, too much feels.

Reading the summary from the author's website, it really sounds like a good nice book to read becuase the plot seems really interesting. hmmm... i'm thinking of reading it maybe. But coming from the comments, i guess it didn't reach high expectations.

Yeah, I guess it didn't.
I tend to oversell things I'm passionate about, (I repel people like that :?), so I'm not really forcing anyone to read it. Still, it's nice to know what other people think. :)

off topic here ullaleng...that book you're holding in your avatar...is it called ASH? hmmm...it has an interesting twist to the story i think. I haven't really read it I just thought that book cover is familiar. The story was some kind of a retelling of a fairytale character.

It is! Ash by Malinda Lo is a retelling of Cinderella with a lesbian twist.

Yes, it is. I enjoyed reading it. There are fairies, and witches, too.
I haven't read Cinder yet. I don't know when I'll get to it, but it's on my to-read list.
