The Filipino Readers Choice Awards seeks to engage the Filipino reading public in honoring their favorite Philippine-published titles. An initiative of the Filipino Book Bloggers Group, the Filipino RCA was established to develop awareness and appreciation of Philippine literature; recognize the reader’s role in creating the meaning and experience of a literary work; and give the readers a voice in the Philippine book industry.
On its first year, the Filipino RCA is open to titles published in the Philippines from January 2010 to December 2011, in the following categories:
Children’s picture book
Novel in English
Novel in Filipino
Comics / Graphic novels
Short story anthology
Phase 1: Nominations (2 weeks)
Nominations are open from July 9 to 22. To nominate a book, just fill out the online nomination form. The nomination form gets sent to the Filipino RCA committee.
Nominations will be posted on the Filipino ReaderCon website on a weekly basis. Links to reviews of nominated titles will also be posted on the site.
Phase 2: Voting (1 week)
At the end of the nomination period, an online ballot will be posted on the site. The public can vote one title per category from July 25 to July 31.
Phase 3: Semi-finals (1 week)
After the voting period, the Filipino Readers Choice Awards committee will then come up with a shortlist of finalists for the awards, based on the tally of votes sent in by readers. Top nominations per category will be included in the shortlist.
Shortlisted entries will be announced on one week from the end of the voting period.
Phase 4: Panel Judging (2 weeks)
The shortlisted entries will be deliberated upon by a panel composed of select Filipino book bloggers and readers.
The winners of the 1st Filipino Readers Choice Awards will be announced at the Filipino ReaderCon 2012 on August 18, 2012 at Filipinas Heritage Library.
Winning authors and publishers will receive awards (to be announced), and the right to use the Filipino Readers Choice Awards seal on their books.
