Learning to Make Comics in Manila

Postby tintinp » September 20th, 2013, 11:58 am

I'm curious if anyone here wants to learn how to make comics or manga? I know that certain schools in the Philippines teach comic/komiks ( call it whatever) like UP, Ateneo, St Benilde, and First Academy, but really? is there a demand for students who want to learn comics? I know comics like Trese are popular here but it's hardly an industry. Anyway, local komiks thread I guess.
Disclaimer: I teach a how to make comics, manga, and graphic novel workshop in Manila (https://www.facebook.com/TintinPComicsWorkshop) and I'm trying to gauge if anyone actually wants to learn the stuff. It's my dream to create a comic and art/ cartooning school here. Should I be approaching parents with teenage kids who are anime and manga and comics fans? Or should I be trying to talk to older komiks art students?

And what are your favorite books on how to make comics/ how to draw?

Here's another really great book about making comics, but it's less about storytelling theory and more about the practical applications, like pens, how to draw, etc. It's a classroom in a book ( and i use its lessons extensively). However, McCloud's Making Comics is more interesting from a storytelling point of view.

Learn to make Comics and Manga in Manila. These comics lessons are great for teens and adults who love anime, manga, indies, superhero books from Marvel, DC, and Image. They're also great for those who just want to improve their drawings and make the next great graphic novel! you can text 0928-506-1046 or go to my Facebook page for more info.
