I finished New Moon by Stephenie Meyer weeks ago. I was in a reading slump for weeks now. (Trust me. It's not as bad as everyone says it is)

But I'm almost done with The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Been fighting the reading slump and I'm more than halfway through the book. This book is awesome. The love story is veeeeeeeeeeery cool. It has a lot of twists in it. I suggest you read it. :)

No the Twilight is not that terrible..it is actually entertaining and engaging hence why it became popular. Also I haven't read the Time Traveler's Wife but I have seen the movie. Well if you are in a reading slump you might try venturing over at the children and Young Adult section if you are into that genre there are series there that you might be interested to pick up. :)

Shine Not Burn by Elle Casey
Genre : Adult Contemporary romance
Rating : 4.5/5

I have this dl months ago and now i have finally read it and oh my goodness i didn't think i would find a cowboy that HOT! i mean really HOT! Andie went on a bachelorette weekend party for three with her bffs at the sin city Las Vegas and obviously got drunk so drunk she didn't remember getting hitched with one sexy cowboy Mack Mckenzie. But it's been two years since and she was about to get married to another lawyer when she learned that she was already married two years ago!!! So off she went to search this mysterious husband whom she only have a vague recollection of. She have a life plan you see and having a husband no matter how charming he can be will not deter her from her plan to a perfect career path with an equally perfect family plan and partner. What i love about this is that we get to see how Andie is slowly beginning to see just how lost she has been for the past two years that her bffs have dropped out of her for they can no longer recognize their Andie who used to be genuine and fun and unpretentious.
Man this was actually funny and heartwarming. I didn't expect to be that engaged with the characters and the whole story in general.

City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments #6)

Absolutely loved it! I'm just a little bit sad now that it's over. But wow, that was really great.

SECOND CHANCE SUMMER by Morgan Matson
3/5

The plot is not something as new and not extraordinary. In fact, it has the common theme of family, love and friendship drama. Just the heavy topic of death hovering the lead page. But the simplicity of how it is written, of how it is centered on one place, made the story personal, heart-melting even.

It mainly focused on the family aspect. While struggling to accept the fact that a loved-one might be gone in 3 months or four, the whole Edwards family went back to their old summer house in Lake Phoenix, after 5 long years. Mom, Dad, Big brother Warren, Little sister Gelsey and Mid-child Taylor. All were used to the comforts of the city and their individual busy lives there that when they found out that Dad has stage 4 cancer, it was decided that they should spend the summer, the "maybe-last summer" together in the familiar and homey place of their lakehouse.

Unwillingly, Taylor, was half-heartedly dragged home due to some personal reasons. She left some unfinished business 5 years ago, and would not want to confront her fears. It allegedly involved Lucy, her former bestfriend, and Henry, her first love. Now that she came back, meeting them was inevitable. But the fact that Taylor knew she was the one at fault before, she had to make some amends and rekindle the friendships.

The summer was just like any summer. Beach, dock, movies under the stars, bicycle rides, flip-flops, kisses, falling stars, ice cream and cake and more. But the best thing about Taylor's summer was the chance that she got to make all things right. With her family, especially with her dad. I love the scenes when they sneak out to have their quality time, like breakfasts and getting to know each other questions. I really loved that! I was overwhelmed with the fact that they get to say their respective goodbyes. That while facing and accepting death is not an easy thing to handle, the whole family faced it together. They had the best last summer together!

Henry and Lucy and Warren and Gelsey and other sub characters made the story more interesting. I was just quite disappointed on how the revelation of Taylor's not wanting to go back because of what happened 5 years ago turned out. I just thought it was that silly. But when i come to think of it, it was very Taylor. Because she was this person who always run away when the going gets tough, when life for her becomes hard. It was not a good trait of her, and i hate her for that. She was that coward in every little thing.

This is a story about family. And love between them, between friends, between lovers. This will make you appreciate more the life that you have and the time that you get to spend with your loved ones. Don't waste opportunities when you can be with your family and friends dear to you. Always show them that you care. Always tell them that you love them. Because no matter how easy going your life maybe now, you don't know when the time will be up. You don't want to have regrets in the end.

Over all, the writing is simple and easy to comprehend. The vivid details made you know more about the characters and the setting. The fact that i love the beach and the sun and summer. Plus the fact that i get to learn classic movies to watch out for, Casablanca and the Thin Man. I learn to appreciate the book not only for the story itself but the things i get to learn from it. Now, i know what to do with my lazy coffee bondings with friends and families, get to know more with q & a's. :)

WE WERE LIARS E. Lockhart
4/5

Mysteriously written that slowly unravels in every pages turned. i like how the way it was formed, easy to read but hard to comprehend, because the story itself is mind boggling and puzzling. I suspected something was amiss halfway, though, hazy about the exact details. I took a hunch and indeed i was proven true at the last few chapters. When the big revelation was out, which connected the dots and straightened the whole matter, I was deeply saddened. Because while i was reading it, the Sinclair family grew on me. And when it ended, i feel the loss as well as the understanding. I was in the mind of Cadence Sinclair, all the way.

I want to tell you the whole truth, but then it will defeat the purpose of the story. I wanted to share a glimpse of the real lives behind the glamorous Beechwood summer escape of the beautiful Sinclair family, but then I will lie. So if u want to know the truth, READ!

Panic by Lauren Oliver
Genre : YA Contemporary, romance, drama, suspense
Rating : 2/5

I was curious what this was about. Well it's about this legendary secret annual game called Panic wherein only graduating Seniors can participate but as the challenges becomes more dangerous so it the stakes. The winner takes the huge winning pot worth thousands. It was not a bad novel it was just that I didn't find myself invested with the main characters. They were not that all that likable. I was hoping for more edginess to the authors writing when the premise of the story calls for it. So i was feeling quite detached while reading this :( I began to warm up to Heather once she got her priorities straightened out. I can't abide most of their teenage angst here, normally i could tolerate it but here it was just a tad depressing. While their characterizations stayed true to being a teenager, this one just didn't click well for me. Over all still an okay read hence a gave it a 2 star.

Proxy (Proxy #1) by Alex London
Genre : YA sci-fi Dystopian with LGBT theme

So the author is coming to PH but only in MNL still i pick this one up to keep myself abreast with the author's work. I went into it not reading much about what's it about or about the character coz i wanted to be surprise and to have no pre formed feelings towards it. I was quite surprise about how i end up really enjoying this one. The futuristic setting of this book was quite familiar, we have seen it done in movies in other YA books but with a twist of its own, the new civilization is run on debts and credits and contractual agreement. There is a network to run the entire city. The rich lives in the Upper city and they are called Patrons and the those born poor or from the desert and migrated into the slums of the city they remain depressingly poor and in heavy long debt to the city government, most of them becomes a proxy. A proxy whose debt has been bought out by an anonymous patron. All transgression made by the patron will be paid for in form by his/her proxy who will take the punishment in their behalf. Which really sucks if u ask me but hey that's how their world function. Syd is a proxy and gay...who is very unlucky to have a spoiled brat patron Knox. He took his punishment very frequently through out his 16 years and he only need to endure two more years before he could have the chance to be free from his debt but things took an ugly turn for Syd when his patron end up killing another patron's daughter by accident and now Syd will end up taking the burden and this time is will be years before he will ever be out of his debt. Might as well be incarcerated with no possibility of parole.
There were quite a number of unexpected twist and turns to this story till the end I was just left hanging with my mouth open coz again some characters are just that unpredictable here.
A great suspenseful debut from Alex London.
