The last book that I finished was The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. I saw it on a book fair and I curiosity struck me with its very long title ( ) so I gave it a try. It's a feel good book. It consists entirely of letters between the main character and several of her contacts and friends and the Island during the German invasion of 1940-45. The book narrates the incidents that took place during the 6 years that the Germans were present on the Island and how the life of the Islanders was affected by the invasion. Umakma din sa kin kasi gusto ko din ng mga historically-themed novels. Being first time na triny ko na magbasa ng ganong format (puro letters), akala ko mahihirapan ako intindihin ang story but I was wrong. After finishing the book you'll end up wanting to visit Guernsey. (Guernsey is a little island on the English Channel between UK and France). If you like the Eat, Pray and Love novel, you'll also love this one.
Choke is about the messed-up life of Victor Mancini. He's a sex addict who needs a lot of money to take care of his mother, so he pretends to choke while eating in restaurants. The people who help him feel like heroes for saving his life, so they also give him money after hearing whatever sad story he comes up with to gain their sympathy.
Choke is a nonlinear, character-driven story that explores addiction and the effects of an unhappy childhood. There are many things about Mancini that makes him unpleasant, and he even prides himself for being unpleasant, but his actions shed light to a man with a good heart. The heart just happens to be covered with muck.
I'd recommend this book to people who are interested in gritty novels and damaged minds. Don't worry, it has a happy ending.

it was suggested by my friend.. or rather forced in on me. maybe, she felt that i can relate. well, honestly, yes it did. im a sucker for star-crossed lovers. you know, those kind of real love but they cant be together because of so many reasons, so many situations. no matter how long you were together, be it four days or years, or well, in my case 7 months (haha! i admit!) you just have to accept the facts and move one.. until you realized that after all those years or months, you still long for that person and you cant quite shake the feelings off. oh well, time heals old wounds, as they. maybe i should focus on that.
just sharing my fave lines from the book:
“Analysis destroys wholes. Some things, magic things, are meant to stay whole. If you look at their pieces, they go away.” “The heart never forgets, never gives up, the territory marked off for those who came before.” “The old dreams were good dreams; they didn't work out but I'm glad I had them.” "God or the universe or whatever one chooses to label the great system of balance and order does not recognize Earth-time. To the universe, four days is no different than four billion light years. I try to keep that in mind."
Beautiful Bastard by Christine Lauren...i've read this already when it was a twilight fanfic but still got curious to read it again in its published form and I realize i am so over this story. Smuttiness was all over the chapters and really even I got bored. An office affair that shouldn't have happen and not really original hot secretary sleeping with her boss. It was a love hate attraction and a dozen or more ruined panties. I wanted to be entertained and it ended up being an okay read. This is an adult contemporary romance that was riding on the popularity of the previous published twilight fanfic stories. But personally I refused to buy these published fanfics like Fifty Shades, Wallbanger, Gabriel's Inferno series and etc. because they were for free before online and i think an ebook will suffice. The story is still the same except for the character's name.
trese! the first two volumes. what can i say? quite good. The concept was quite good. The execution was quite good. The artwork is good(I'm only biased because I already read Craig Thompson's Blankets). It's like those sentai series which has a new episode every week. My only wish is that there be a big story arc that will develop. Like a big story developing within the smaller stories.
If anybody is looking for non-comedy local comic book, this is a good one to start with.
Beyond Seduction (Bastion Club #7) by Stephanie Laurens...historical romance. Follows the love story of Gervase Tregarth 6th Earl of Crowhurst and his valkyrie like bride Madeline Gargoine. It was not an instant love not even attraction despite being long time family friends and neighbors and both are principal land owners in their local hometown in the year 1800 something. I like that aspect of their relationship it began with a seduction in the quest to know more about each other and hoping that there is truly something real like love and a real partner in each other. It can be cheesy at times but most books in this genre are anyway. I am annoyed though that the long time nemesis ~the very elusive and mysterious spy/traitor of Dyziel has once again escaped and seriously who is this person??? There was a power outage in my area and so i wanted to pass time and had this one in my tablet.
"You dont get to choose if you get hurt in this world, old man, but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices. I hope she likes hers.' -AUGUSTUS WATERS
We always say and believe that the youth is the hope of our nation. With all their freshness, vitality and energy in life, we always put the good future before them. That is to say, they are physically and emotionally and mentally healthy. But what if they were diagnosed with some incurable diseases, will he or she just be another living thing whose passing this world without any purpose or leaving it without any legacy in his or her name? I admired both Hazel Grace and Augustus for having the courage to accept life as it is given to them. And making the most out of it. They showed bravery in dealing with their sickness. The importance of having their family, and supporting each other no matter what happens. The value of friendships and most importantly the experience of love. At the most, when they passed on, they did nothing extraordinary for the world, but to each other, they gave everything, they touched their hearts.
