Thriller definitely. Although, I'm 10 years off from YA age bracket. Turning 30 this year, yay!

Anyway, yeah absolutely with photographs as an element in the book can be surely effective in reading it. I read one book that used this kind of "technique" titled Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

The pictures used in that book definitely made an impact on how i read through the story. I was totally engaged while reading it. I was even anticipating what i would see next as i turn the next page. Since, maybe most of young adults are more into visual stimulation, using photographs can be helpful to make them feel be a part of the story and not a mere audience while reading the book.

Hi Chelsey, oh I would definitely be more likely buy a book that is illustrated! In fact for some of my most favorite books ever i buy the special illustrated edition (hardcover) even if I already have the standard edition just to add them to my collection. Examples of special illustrated editions i bought are Island of the blue dolphins, The Life of Pi, The Little Prince, The Woman in White, Arabian Nights, The Secret Garden, Wind in the Willows, etc. You can check out my post about them here in my book blog where i post pictures of the illustrations for better appreciation :-)

But if you ask me, i think illustrated non-children's book are appealing to everyone but will actually be bought only by those who are serious readers or book collectors since they are usually hardbound and more expensive, not by casual readers or the type who would buy a breakthrough bestseller every now and then just to know what the craze is about. Unless they are young teens whose parents can buy them illustrated editions why not. But this is just my guess :)

 I share the same sentiments. I'm in my mid-20s and I still read YA books. I also love thriller/suspense books, but when it comes to YA books, I'm into realistic fiction novels. :D
