Hello Fellow RP Members
In line with my ideas to liven up this YA section I would like to introduce you to a Monthly YA Challenge that will help widen your interest to this genre. Every month I will post a reading challenge here that I hope in time will make a YAddict out of you
So with that in mind for the month of MAY , my challenge is this :
Read a dystopian trilogy. As many of you readers may have noticed that dystopian literature has exploded now in the YA genre. To give you an idea what dystopia means : A dystopia is the idea of a society in a repressive and controlled state, often under the guise of being utopian, as characterized in books like Matched series by Ally Condie and Divergent series by Veronica Roth to name a few. Dystopian societies feature different kinds of repressive social control systems and various forms of active and passive coercion, often imagined as police states, with unlimited power over the citizens. Fictional dystopias are often set in the future and involve technological innovations not accessible in actual present reality.
I am featuring three dystopian trilogies that you can choose from that might be to your literary taste :
1. The Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness
#1 The Knife of Never Letting Go #2 The Ask and the Answer #3 Monsters of Men
Imagine you’re the only boy in a town of men. And you can hear everything they think. And they can hear everything you think. Imagine you don’t fit in with their plans…Todd Hewitt is just one month away from the birthday that will make him a man. But his town has been keeping secrets from him. Secrets that are going to force him to run…
2. Across the Universe Trilogy by Beth Revis
#1 Across the Universe #2 A Million Suns #3 Shades of Earth
Hundreds of years in the future, the spaceship Godspeed travels toward a distant planet with 100 cryogenically frozen settlers on board. One of them is seventeen year old Amy, who wakes early and finds herself in the middle of a strange, regimented society made up of those born on the ship over generations. With the help of Elder, the ship's only teenager and future leader, she has to solve a murder mystery and save the ship. ~wikipedia
3. Delirium Trilogy by Lauren Oliver
#1 Delirium #2 Pandemonium #3 Requiem
Follows Lena and Alex, two teens battling against the controlling government that believes that love is a disease and forbids it from their community.
I have personally only read #2 and #3 series so I hope to take challenge #1 myself. Although it is the most darker, violent and graphic compared to the other two. This challenge will run from May 02 – 31, 2013.
Every time you finished a book in this challenge do come back here and post your reviews and thoughts about the book. I may or may not have a surprise that will await to the RP member that have completed the May challenge. I will randomly PM to that member from among the reviews he/she posted in this section at the end of this challenge and he/she needs to reply within 48 hours. Remember that only posted reviews within the running dates are valid so do take note of that.
Happy Summer Reading Everyone!
