Hello Fellow RP Members :D

In line with my ideas to liven up this YA section I would like to introduce you to a Monthly YA Challenge that will help widen your interest to this genre. Every month I will post a reading challenge here that I hope in time will make a YAddict out of you ;)

So with that in mind for the month of MAY , my challenge is this :

Read a dystopian trilogy. As many of you readers may have noticed that dystopian literature has exploded now in the YA genre. To give you an idea what dystopia means : A dystopia is the idea of a society in a repressive and controlled state, often under the guise of being utopian, as characterized in books like Matched series by Ally Condie and Divergent series by Veronica Roth to name a few. Dystopian societies feature different kinds of repressive social control systems and various forms of active and passive coercion, often imagined as police states, with unlimited power over the citizens. Fictional dystopias are often set in the future and involve technological innovations not accessible in actual present reality.

I am featuring three dystopian trilogies that you can choose from that might be to your literary taste :

1. The Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness
#1 The Knife of Never Letting Go #2 The Ask and the Answer #3 Monsters of Men
Imagine you’re the only boy in a town of men. And you can hear everything they think. And they can hear everything you think. Imagine you don’t fit in with their plans…Todd Hewitt is just one month away from the birthday that will make him a man. But his town has been keeping secrets from him. Secrets that are going to force him to run…

2. Across the Universe Trilogy by Beth Revis
#1 Across the Universe #2 A Million Suns #3 Shades of Earth
Hundreds of years in the future, the spaceship Godspeed travels toward a distant planet with 100 cryogenically frozen settlers on board. One of them is seventeen year old Amy, who wakes early and finds herself in the middle of a strange, regimented society made up of those born on the ship over generations. With the help of Elder, the ship's only teenager and future leader, she has to solve a murder mystery and save the ship. ~wikipedia

3. Delirium Trilogy by Lauren Oliver
#1 Delirium #2 Pandemonium #3 Requiem
Follows Lena and Alex, two teens battling against the controlling government that believes that love is a disease and forbids it from their community.

I have personally only read #2 and #3 series so I hope to take challenge #1 myself. Although it is the most darker, violent and graphic compared to the other two. This challenge will run from May 02 – 31, 2013.

Every time you finished a book in this challenge do come back here and post your reviews and thoughts about the book. I may or may not have a surprise that will await to the RP member that have completed the May challenge. I will randomly PM to that member from among the reviews he/she posted in this section at the end of this challenge and he/she needs to reply within 48 hours. Remember that only posted reviews within the running dates are valid so do take note of that.

Happy Summer Reading Everyone!
.

HEL :) (see i take note of all your nicknames here)I will soon start posting a separate forum for each series by last week of April since this challenge will take effect on May 02 pa. I am just posting this early so that interested readers will have enough time to choose and line up their copies for this for their May TBR list. Remember posting of reviews will be on MAY pa. Ok will PM you about your first concern.

Im up to this. (Please forgive me for any wrong use of propositions. That's my waterloo hehhe, just correct me if i'm wrong. So that I might learn from you guys.)

I'd go for DIVERGENT since DELIRIUM is having to do with LOVE, you know my reason why. Hmm pero may naiisip pa akong novel na PARTIALS by Dan Wells. I dont know if that would fall in YA genre. Mind checking it for me, Moderator Laila? Kung pasado sa criteria.

I have Divergent and Insurgent ebook copy. If someone has a good heart to give me the 3rd one that would be delightful.

==========================================================================================================================================

Hmm this reading challenge gave me an inspiration to do this as well with "dark" novels. Yung mga kakaiba. Novels like I am not a Serial killer or the The Graveyard Book, or Ms.Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. But I think it would be overwhelming if sabay sabay natin. How about after your YA challenge Ms.Laila? Ano bang genre yung mga ganyang novels?

Yung Let Me in/Let The Right One In , is this a YA novel?

@ Malot...as per your query:

Partials trilogy by Dan Wells is under the YA genre, the main protagonist is 17 years old and setting is in the post apocalyptic world /sci fi. But for this challenge the dystopian trilogy must all be published by May 2013.

The Divergent #3 installment is not yet out and is expected to be released sometime in October 2013 so I cannot include this trilogy for this challenge.

Let The Right One In is considered a general fiction for young adult. Although its main theme and plot is geared to a more adult audience but I think it can be enjoyed and appreciated by the younger audience as well. I haven't read the book but i have seen the american version of the movie and it was creepy and fascinating at the same time. I love Chloe Moretz <3

In YA genre basically the main protagonist are ages 12 yrs and up till 17 and the plots, theme, are situations that the intended audience can relate to in one way or another. It deals with the issues of handling situations and growing up into adulthood it whatever setting. But YA is quite broad and almost very little difference to Adult books except like it cannot be that steamy, it cannot be that graphic otherwise the publisher will not categorize it for YA audience or they will edit scenes that can be acceptable to the intended audience.

I understand your taste runs to a more hardcore or even complex characters and plot, but I have to balance it out with other readers that might want less complicated series and even romance. I can't alienate them dear Malot. That is why you should take the most challenging series that is not to your liking YOU CAN'T KEEP AVOIDING LOVE! LOL! I dare you! Kaya nga challenge eh!

Do not worry we will explore other categories of the YA genre in every Monthly YA challenge that I will dole out in the months ahead :)

Hahahahah Thanks Moderator Laila. That's why I asked you first and waited for your approval. Hmm... Goodness, i need to find something else then. But should it be at least a trilogy or can it be a stand alone book?

Any recommendations? Just a lighter take on LOVE please. Be gentle on me since this is a BUENA MANO challenge. I promise, I'll read something more challenging next time. Hehehe.

Why don't you take Series#1? from other feedbacks who have read this series there is very little romance in it. Who know you might find love is such a hopeless place? hehehe!
Again the MAY challenge is to read a Dystopian Trilogy so to be fair for those who are taking up this challenge, kindly adhere to my guidelines for this :) Reminder this is still for the month of May so i'm sure you have plenty of enough time to look up the series and it might peak your interest as the starting date draws closer ;)
